China’s Inland Beauty Clusters: Luyi and Xuchang Command Global Makeup Brush and Wig Exports

Central China’s Henan Province has emerged as a critical node in the global beauty supply chain. Luyi County now supplies over 85 percent of the world’s artificial makeup brush fiber materials and accounts for more than 90 percent of China’s makeup brush exports. In nearby Xuchang, six out of every 10 wigs sold worldwide are produced by a cluster of more than 4,000 companies.

- Luyi Makeup Brush Hub: The county produces 150 million sets of high-end makeup brushes annually across over 1,000 business entities, with a local supply-chain matching rate exceeding 95 percent. Companies like DIAS have built direct sales channels in Europe and operate an overseas warehouse in Germany, achieving an annual output value exceeding 70 million yuan (about 10.3 million USD).
- Xuchang Wig Manufacturing: Xuchang’s hair-products cluster directly supports nearly 300,000 jobs and produces almost 3,000 varieties of hair products. Rebecca, China’s first listed hair-products company, has developed multi-functional hair fibers that fill a domestic technology gap in high-grade human-hair-like fibers. During 2025 Black Friday, its cross-border e-commerce sales reached 1.49 million USD.
- Value Chain Upgrade: Inland manufacturers are shifting from contract manufacturing and raw material supply to own-brand development, overseas warehousing, and direct cross-border e-commerce via platforms including Alibaba, Amazon, TikTok Shop, and AliExpress.

These inland manufacturing clusters represent a broader transformation in China’s beauty supply chain. By controlling raw materials, building brands, and establishing direct overseas sales channels, companies in Luyi and Xuchang are capturing more value further up the supply chain. China-Europe freight trains now deliver products from inland Henan to European customers in as little as 20 days – about half the time required by traditional sea shipping. Local companies also increasingly use AI translation tools to communicate with international buyers.
